5 months
Age: 5 months
Height: 23.5"
Weight: over 14lbs I’m sure
Head: 40.5"
Milestones: Avy can visually track things as they move around the room. She likes to talk, squeal, and blow bubbles. She smiles often and is a pretty happy baby most of the time. She can roll over and enjoys rolling across the floor. She is beginning to really like her jumperoo. She will play in it for 20 minutes or more at a time. She really likes to stand and will use your hands to help pull her up. She also enjoys sitting up and only needs a little support to stay seated. She has found her feet and like to grab and hold onto them.
Sleep: Avy has begun to sleep through the night! She usually goes to bed around 7pm and then will sleep anywhere from 7 to 10 hours. When she takes a big bottle before bed, she will sleep the longest. She continues to take naps during the day, but is not on a scheduled routine for naps yet.
Best Moment: I think she is beginning to recognize familiar people. When she sees me, she usually always get’s excited!
Worst Moment: Avy still has the GERD (acid reflux) issue and continues to spit up a lot of her bottles. She is still on medication which seems to help somewhat. We are hoping that we will see some improvement soon!
Health: So far, no issues.
Eating: Avy continues to gain weight and look chubby. She continues to take bottles with rice cereal to help with the acid reflux. We started baby foods the day before Thanksgiving. She started off with sweet potatoes. I think she likes them. This week, we started her on squash. She seems to like the squash better then the sweet potatoes.
Teeth: Nope, but drooling a lot and consistently putting her hands in her mouth and chewing on toys.
Extra comments: Each and every day it seems Avy learns something new! She is really starting to interact with us and seems to know who we are. She is mostly a happy baby and usually only fusses when she is tired and needs to nap. She loves playing with her toys and uses both hands to reach for a toy when placed in front of her. She likes to jump in her jumperoo and sit up in her boppy. She continues to lover her bathtime and has begun to splash the water.

Doctor's Appointment Update
Avy had her 4 month doctor's appointment on Monday November 12th. Here are her stats:
Weight: 13.9 lbs, 32% percentile
Height: 23.25", 6% percentile
Head: 40.5", 42% percentile
It looks like she might be short!
Avy also got her 4 month shots. She did really well and only cried for about 10 seconds after the second shot. The doctor told us to wait about one more month until we introduce baby foods. She said it was ok for her to start on oatmeal, so I plan to start spoon feeding her oatmeal and see how she does. We might start one baby food next week over Thanksgiving since I will have five days off. She said start off with either sweet potatoes, carrots or squash first and only introduce one food per week to see if she has any aversions or sensitivities to the food. I think we will start with sweet potatoes, which will be perfect for Thanksgiving!
Avy continues to grow and surprise us with new tricks each day. She likes to do sit ups all the time. She raises her head and her legs as if she is doing a crunch. She continues to squeal and jabbers every now and again. I always get a BIG smile in the morning when I go in to get her out of her crib. That always makes me happy! She is almost rolling over. She gets stuck on her arm and if we give her a push she can roll over. She is sitting up so good as well. I usually just have my hand behind her and she will stay up while she plays with toys. She LOVES to see what is going on. Her eyes always following us wherever we go. She also knows mommy and daddy's voices. She turns her head to our voice when we talk. She is such a delight and we are looking forward to all the surprises she has in store for us!

4 Months
Age: 4 months
Height: Not sure, doctor’s appointment Nov. 12
Weight: Not sure, doctor’s appointment Nov. 12
Head: Not sure, doctor’s appointment Nov. 12
Milestones: Avy loves to squeal and blow bubbles. She will make eye contact with you and follow you around the room with her eyes. She is reaching and grabbing her toys when she is on her back. She starts to roll over, but needs a little help to get all the way over onto her tummy. She is so close to laughing, it’s only a matter of time! She is sitting up better with only a little support. She still loves to stand up. We got her a jumperoo that she can stand in, but she doesn’t quite have it down yet.
Sleep: Avy does well when we put her to bed. Her sleeping habits have changed a little. She seems to have become a very restless sleeper. We have to go in and put her back to sleep quite often. She hasn’t been doing long stretches of 5 or 6 hours like she was. She is going to bed earlier, around 8 or 8:30 at night. Then she wakes up to eat about twice before I get up for work.
Best Moment: I love when she interacts with me. She smiles so frequently now when you talk to her and I love when she is so excited that she squeals!
Worst Moment: Avy still has the GERD (acid reflux) issue and continues to spit up a lot of her bottles. She is still on medication which seems to help somewhat. I’m hoping that once she starts eating thicker foods and can sit up, she won’t spit up as much.
Health: So far, no issues.
Eating: Avy continues to gain weight and looks chubby, but doesn’t always take her bottles. She tends to eat every 4 or 5 hours, sometimes taking 5 ounces and sometimes 3 ounces. We still have to mix her bottles with rice cereal so I think that keeps her full longer.
Teeth: Nope, but drooling a lot and consistently putting her hands in her mouth.
Extra comments: Avy is really getting fun! She loves to play with her toys and talk back to you when you talk to her. She likes to look and books and be read too. She goes on frequent stroller rides and walks in her carrier, which she enjoys most of the time. She continues to love her baths. I’m not looking forward to when she discovers she can splash the water!

3 Months
Age: 3 months
Height: 21 inches = 7th percentile at 8 week appointment
Weight: 11lbs, 8oz. =24th percentile
Head: 37.50= 40th percentile at 8 week appointment
Milestones: Avy loves to talk. She will make eye contact with you and talk back to you when you talk to her. She is able to roll over on her back to each of her sides. She is beginning to reach for toys or objects that she likes. Avy loves standing up. We hold her hands when she is sitting down and she will pull up on your hands to stand. She is beginning to gain better head and trunk control and is able to sit in her bumbo seat.
Sleep: Avy does well when we put her to bed and sleeps pretty good throughout the night. She usually goes to bed around 9 or 10 and wakes up once in the middle of the night and then once in the early morning. She is pretty easy to get back to sleep during her middle of the night feeding. The doctor said once she doubles her birth weight, she should start sleeping through the night. I can’t wait!!
Best Moment: I love when she interacts with me. When she talks and smiles at you it just melts your heart.
Worst Moment: Avy was diagnosed with GERD (severe acid reflux) at around 9 weeks. She was vomiting after every feeding and became very fussy. She was not gaining weight either. The doctor put her on a medication for reflux and told us to start mixing rice cereal in each of her bottles. We have noticed a tremendous difference. The doctor said most babies out grow reflux around 4 or 5 months, but some may take up to a year. Let’s hope she out grows it soon!!
Health: The doctor said she looks very healthy; she is just a small baby.
Eating: Avy continues to eat pretty well. She is now on rice cereal mixed into each bottle to help keep the milk down due to GERD (acid reflux)
Teeth: Nope, but drooling a lot and consistently putting her hands in her mouth.
Extra comments: I went back to work when Avy was 10 weeks. My mom watches Avy when Greg is working. It’s been so nice knowing that Avy is in GREAT hands while I am at work. Greg has been taking Avy outdoors a lot on walks and hikes. My mom also bought a stroller for Avy so she can take Avy on walks when she watches her. She’s not spoiled or anything!

Avy loves her bumbo!
Avy is starting to get good head control. We have been putting her in her bumbo seat and she loves it!
GERD (Acid reflux)
A couple of weeks ago we took Avy back to the pedriciatrian because she was vomiting when she ate and would get extremely fussy after eating or sometimes during eating. She would not like to be burped and would try and throw herself backwards when we would try and burp her. She had only gained 1 oz in a little over a week so the doctor seemed concerend. The doctor said these were all signs of GERD (acid reflux) and gave us a medication to try. The doctor also told us to thicken her feedings with rice cereal. Usually rice cereal is not introduced until around 4 months, but Avy gets to start it early. With the medication and the rice cereal, Greg and I have seen some good changes. She is not spitting up as much and seems a lot less fussy. Let's hope everything starts to look up from here!

2 months
Age: 2 month
Height: 21 inches = 7th percentile at 8 week appointment
Weight: 10lbs, 1oz. =27th percentile at 8 week appointment
Head: 37.50= 40th percentile at 8 week appointment
Milestones: Avy is starting to make good eye contact and smile back at you. She will imitate coo sounds when you talk to her. She likes to stick out her tongue and pucker her lips. She can roll onto one of her sides when on her back. She is holding her head up better when sitting up right. She is trying to find her thumb to suck on, but just can’t get it quite right yet!
Sleep: Avy does not have a schedule for sleeping down yet. She usually, but not always, goes to bed between 10 and 11pm then wakes up once at night between 2 or 3am. The hardest part is getting her back to sleep. She sometimes stays up for an hour and a half or two hours. She will then wake up again around 6am and then go back to sleep. I am hoping that we will start seeing some sort of routine or longer sleep periods in a couple of weeks since I will be going back to work.
Best Moment: I was talking to her the other night and she continued to talk back to me by making cooing sounds one after another! I love to see her smile too!
Worst Moment: Lately, Avy’s fussiness has quieted down a bit. After figuring out she had anal stenosis and managing the problem she has seemed to be a little happier. She still acts like she strains sometimes, but I think that’s somewhat normal. She still continues to have some episodes of colic, but not as bad as before.
Health: The doctor said she looks very healthy, she is just a small baby.
Eating: Avy continues to eat pretty well.
Teeth: Nope
Extra comments: Avy had her 2 month shots and did very well. She fussed for a second and then seemed all better. I go back to work in two weeks and am not looking forward to that. She continues to change each and every day and brings lots of smiles to my face!

8 weeks
This is defiantly an overdue update. It's hard having the free time to do things when having a newborn.
At 6 weeks, Avy started to really become more alert. She would make eye contact with you and began smiling. She started to make little coo sounds and squeals. She likes to stick out her tounge and pucker her lips. She is beginning to gain better head control when sitting upright. When on her back she can roll onto one of her sides.
At 8 weeks, Avy had her 2 month shots. She was a trooper and didn't fuss too much. Just last night, she was looking at me while I was talking to her and she started to really talk back to me. She made one coo sound after another. It was so cute!
Grandma Margaret has been out here in Arizona for the past couple of weeks helping me out when Gregory works his 48 hours. It has been wonderful having her here. Not only does it give me some time to get things done, but it's nice to have someone to talk too. 48 hours alone with a newborn is a LONG time! I will be sad to see her go as it's been so nice to see her often and catch up. I am sure Avy will miss her too. I really think Avy responds to her voice and loves when Great Grandma talks to her!
Here are some pictures of when my Grandma Eileen and cousins Amanda and Karly came out to visit with Avy. She was around 4 weeks old then.

Avy Update
We went to the doctor on Monday becasue Avy was becomming very upset and acted like she was in pain when she tried to pass a bowel movement. Each time she would nurse or take a bottle she would also start to cry, which I thought was not a good sign. The doctor found out that Avy has anal stenosis. Bascially, her anus was very narrow making it hard and painful for her to pass stools. The doctor had to use her pinky finger to dialate her and told us to come back wednesday so she could dialate her again. We have to give Avy suppositories once a day for a week and then we are hoping that all the issues will have taken care of themselves. As of today (Sunday) she is beginning to pass a lot more stools and seems much happier. The good news is that at the doctor she weighed 8lbs, 12oz. At least we know she is still getting food! Please keep Avy and us in your thoughts!

Things Nana B made
Nana Bury sent Avy a package of all sorts of things she made Avy. Here is a picture of Avy in a knitted hat and booties that she made and sent. Avy also recieved a handmade baby blanket with matching handmade pillow. She also made a matching hooded coat for her to wear when then weather gets cooler. Avy's little feet should be warm because Nana B made atleast 8 pair of knitted booties in all different colors. She will have a pair to wear with each outfit!
1 Month (4 weeks)
Age: 1 month
Height: 19.25 inches = 5th percentile at 2 week appointment
Weight: 7lbs, 6oz. =17th percentile at 2 week appointment
Head: 34.75= 24th percentile at 2 week appointment
Milestones: Avy is starting to hold her head up better. She let mommy sleep for a total of 4.5 hours the other night!
Sleep: Since I am breastfeeding, it’s recommended to feed her every 2 ½ to 3 hours. The doctor said she can go one stretch of 4 or 5 hours and hopefully it would happen at night. She usually will do her long stretch of sleep at night, but occasionally I still have to wake her. She has a hard time getting to sleep (usually because of an upset tummy or gas pain episode). Sometimes we go to bed at 10pm and sometimes it’s 1 or 2am.
Best Moment: I love to see her smile. She also makes a lot of grunting sounds.
Worst Moment: About one or two times a day we have episodes of fussiness (possibly colic, but I think it’s just an upset tummy or gas). She doesn’t cry for long, but just isn’t happy. She will stay awake for 3 or 4 hours at a time during these episodes. Usually it happens once in the late afternoon and then right before bedtime.
Health: The doctor said she looks very healthy.
Eating: Avy continues to eat pretty well. I try to feed her every 3 hours. Sometimes she wakes up and wants to eat herself and other times I have to wake her up to eat.
Teeth: Nope
Extra comments: I can’t believe it’s already been a month since she was born. I am very excited to continue to watch her grow and learn new things. I know I need to enjoy every minute of it because she won’t stay little for long.

3 Weeks Old
Baby Avy is three weeks old today. We went to the doctor on Monday for her 2 week check up. She was 7 lbs and 6 oz. She has gained a whole pound since birth! She was 19.25 inches long, which means she only gained .25 inches in height. I guess that means she is just a little short and chubby! The doctor said everything looked good and we go back for her 2 month check up which will include shots. I'm not looking forward to that!

2 1/2 weeks old
Now I know how busy you get when you become a mom. I understand why you never have time to do anything! It seems like things are finally settling down and Avy, Gregory and I are all getting the hang of things and figuring out how to manage our days. During the first week, Avy was such a perfect baby. All she wanted to do was sleep. I had to wake her up to feed her and then try and keep her awake while she ate. She was a little fussy at times, but hardly ever cried. After the first week, things changed a little. I just say that she's beginning to get a personality. Little miss Avy likes to sleep during the day and keep mommy and daddy up at night. When she is alert, she likes to stay awake for hours! Of course, her most alert time is usually at night. She is beginning to become more vocal when not being held or when being laid down to nap. She is making all sorts of sounds (grunts) and many different faces! She smiles a lot, but I am not sure if it's on purpose yet. We go to the doctor tomorrow for her 2 week check up. I am excited to see how much she has gained because I know she is getting chubbier!
Avy had her newborn pictures taken last weekend. I am very excited to see how they turned out. She slept the entire time, so they are all sleeping baby pictures. I will
post some of them on my blog once I get them.

Avy Elise Bury born July 4th, 2012
On Monday July 2nd, I went to my regular scheduled Doctor's appointment. The doctor was concerned that my blood pressure was high and found protein in my urine. These are both signs of preeclampsia. She sent me to OB triage to be screened and rule out weather or not preeclampsia had started. I went to triage later that afternoon for blood work. My blood pressure still continued to be high while I was being monitored. The blood work also came back elevated for preeclampsia. The doctor at triage decided to admit me and continue with a 24 hour urine test to get a positive diagnosis. After I was admitted I once again started to bleed, therefore the urine test could not be completed. The doctor's thought maybe it would stop and we could pick back up on the urine test, but the concerns of a third bleed seemed to out rule the need for a positive diagnosis. On July 3rd, the doctor's decided to move me to labor and delivery and start the induction process that afternoon. At 4pm I recieved cervidel, which is placed into the cervix to help get it ready for delivery. They leave it in for 12 hours in hopes that it will help dialate the cervix. At 2am I started passing clots and therefore the cervidel came out as well. They decided to go ahead and start the potocin at 3:30am to get things going. My water broke at 8:30am and the contractions started to become intense. I was dialated at 2cm when the doctor checked. The contractions became extremely intense and I decided to get an epidural. When the doctor checked me after the epidural a few minutes later I was already dialated to 8cm. Within a matter or minutes I started to feel pressure and the need to push. With only 6 or 8 pushes, Avy decided to make her entrance at 10:44am. I am so thankful for a quick delivery. The nurse and the doctor's said that if I have any more children I better get to the hospital QUICK since the second one is usually quicker! The doctor said he hadn't had a deliverly that fast in awhile!

Crib bedding and changing area
My mom has been working on making the crib bedding. She finished the bumper this week so we put it on yesterday. I realy like it and hope Baby B likes the bright colors. My mom is also making the curtains for the window in the bedroom. Hopefully they will keep out some of the Arizona heat!
This is the changing area. I took left over fabric that matched the bedding and put it in the antique looking frames. Greg spray painted some of the frames different colors while I was in the hospital. He's quite the handy man around our household! We also changed the knobs on the dresser to lime green antique looking knobs.

33 week appointment
I had an ultrasound and OB appointment today to check the growth of Baby B. The doctors said everything looks great and she is right on track. She weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces. They say that for the next four weeks, she should gain about 1/2 a pound per week and then their weight gain will slow down. She was moving around a lot and the ultrasound tech said "Can you feel her feet in your ribs?" I have been feeling her in my ribs quite often actually. The really good news is that my placenta has moved away from the cervix since my belly has continued to grow meaning I should be able to have a natural delivery. My doctor said that at 36 weeks, I will come off the medication I am on that currently helps stop contracions. She made it sound like nothing will happen when I come off the medication. I now have to go back to the doctor twice a week. They will do a stress test each time I go in to make sure Baby B is under no stress and a ultrasound once a week to measure the fluids around her to make sure they stay the same. I am still on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy it sounds like. I can atleast move around the house, shower and go to the bathroom, I am just not suppose to go shopping, walking, etc. I am so relieved that I got a good report and now just getting anxious for her arrival. The countdown has begun!!

29 week ultrasound
Gregory and I went to our 29 week ultrasound and OB appointment yesterday. I was really hoping to get some good ultrasound pictures and be able to post them, but none of the ones she gave us were even worth posting. 'Baby B' had her hands in front of her face, so we didn't get a good face shot. She weighs about 3.5 pounds as of now. The ultrasound tech said her heart, spine, liver and kidneys looked good. She is still measuring about a week ahead, but I don't think they will change my due date as of now. She is head down, but still has room to move around. I have what is called a low lying placenta or marginal previa. Bascially the placenta is partially covering my cervix. If I went into labor anytime soon, I would probably have to have an emergency C-section since I would be at risk for hemorraging. They said that the placenta should move up on it's own eventually and I should be able to have a regular delivery, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that she goes full term and the placenta moves. We go to the doctor every 2 weeks now and I will have another ultrasound in 4-6 weeks to check once again if the placenta has moved. Hopefully with the next ultrasound, I will get better pictures.

26 weeks
You might have to click on the photo to read the text. I didn't realize it was going to be hard to read.
I had an appointment last week, but it was just a check up. The doctor said everything is looking good. I have to go in next Tuesday for lab work where they will check for anemia and gestational diabetes. Then I go back for an ultrasound May 10th. We have not seen 'baby b' since I was around 18 weeks, so I am really excited to see how much she has grown and how different she may look!

Movement: The movements feel like they are getting stronger. Sometimes I feel a hard spot so I think it has got to be a body part that’s pushing on my tummy!
Food cravings: Nothing that I don’t normally eat.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope. Starting to get a weird metallic taste in my mouth again.

Boy or Girl?
We had our 45 minute ultrasound today and everything looks great! She was really active and moving around a lot. We got to take home a CD of the ultrasound, which I thought was pretty neat! The next appointment won't be for 4 more weeks. We are both so happy that everything seems to be going well.

13 Weeks
At 13 weeks we had an NT test using the ultrasound. This is where they measure the fluid at the back of the babies neck. Depending on the amount of space, they can make an assumption about genetic defects and downs syndrome. Once again we got some more 3D images of Baby B! It's so amazing seeing what exactly is inside your belly! It's really hard to believe! The test came back within normal average, therefore we are not considered at a high risk for genetic defects or down's syndrome.
I will go back at around 18 weeks for another ultrasound where they check for the markers for down's. They will look at all the organs and the body parts during a 45 minute ultrasound. We should also get to know the gender of Baby B!
