3 Weeks Old

Baby Avy is three weeks old today. We went to the doctor on Monday for her 2 week check up. She was 7 lbs and 6 oz. She has gained a whole pound since birth! She was 19.25 inches long, which means she only gained .25 inches in height. I guess that means she is just a little short and chubby! The doctor said everything looked good and we go back for her 2 month check up which will include shots. I'm not looking forward to that!

2 1/2 weeks old

Now I know how busy you get when you become a mom. I understand why you never have time to do anything! It seems like things are finally settling down and Avy, Gregory and I are all getting the hang of things and figuring out how to manage our days. During the first week, Avy was such a perfect baby. All she wanted to do was sleep. I had to wake her up to feed her and then try and keep her awake while she ate. She was a little fussy at times, but hardly ever cried. After the first week, things changed a little. I just say that she's beginning to get a personality. Little miss Avy likes to sleep during the day and keep mommy and daddy up at night. When she is alert, she likes to stay awake for hours! Of course, her most alert time is usually at night. She is beginning to become more vocal when not being held or when being laid down to nap. She is making all sorts of sounds (grunts) and many different faces! She smiles a lot, but I am not sure if it's on purpose yet. We go to the doctor tomorrow for her 2 week check up. I am excited to see how much she has gained because I know she is getting chubbier! Avy had her newborn pictures taken last weekend. I am very excited to see how they turned out. She slept the entire time, so they are all sleeping baby pictures. I will post some of them on my blog once I get them.

Avy Elise Bury born July 4th, 2012

On Monday July 2nd, I went to my regular scheduled Doctor's appointment. The doctor was concerned that my blood pressure was high and found protein in my urine. These are both signs of preeclampsia. She sent me to OB triage to be screened and rule out weather or not preeclampsia had started. I went to triage later that afternoon for blood work. My blood pressure still continued to be high while I was being monitored. The blood work also came back elevated for preeclampsia. The doctor at triage decided to admit me and continue with a 24 hour urine test to get a positive diagnosis. After I was admitted I once again started to bleed, therefore the urine test could not be completed. The doctor's thought maybe it would stop and we could pick back up on the urine test, but the concerns of a third bleed seemed to out rule the need for a positive diagnosis. On July 3rd, the doctor's decided to move me to labor and delivery and start the induction process that afternoon. At 4pm I recieved cervidel, which is placed into the cervix to help get it ready for delivery. They leave it in for 12 hours in hopes that it will help dialate the cervix. At 2am I started passing clots and therefore the cervidel came out as well. They decided to go ahead and start the potocin at 3:30am to get things going. My water broke at 8:30am and the contractions started to become intense. I was dialated at 2cm when the doctor checked. The contractions became extremely intense and I decided to get an epidural. When the doctor checked me after the epidural a few minutes later I was already dialated to 8cm. Within a matter or minutes I started to feel pressure and the need to push. With only 6 or 8 pushes, Avy decided to make her entrance at 10:44am. I am so thankful for a quick delivery. The nurse and the doctor's said that if I have any more children I better get to the hospital QUICK since the second one is usually quicker! The doctor said he hadn't had a deliverly that fast in awhile!
